Arrogance-setback to own progress

Arrogance has been one of the worst enemies of human beings right from the beginning. From the days of creation, the arrogant has always been punished by the God. Take the example of Ravana. Ravana was son of a Brahaman, quite powerful and intelligent. It is also said that he was the prime disciple of Lord Shiva. Everyday he used to go from Lanka to Kailash Mountain to worship Him. One day he thought that why not lift Lord Shiva to Lanka so that he need not commute. The arrogance took over the humility. When Ravana lifted the Kailash Mountain, Lord Shiva raised the mountain in his left toe, as a result of which Ravana was suppressed. There he wrote Shiva Tandav. Even if he was one of the biggest disciples of Shiva, in pursuance of his quest to conquer the world and heaven, he was punished by God.

Take the example of Duryodhan, who is also called 'ManaGobind' because of his arrogance or Abhiman. Even if he was prince of Kauravas, his arrogance ruined him ultimately. He misbehaved with his own brothers, seniors and ladies with the help of his arrogant brothers. Ultimately, this led to Maha-Bharat. In Maha-Bharat not only he was finished but also the great souls like Bhishma, Drona, Karna and others, who helped the 'Arrogant Duryodhan' in his misdeeds 'Adharma' were also finished by God. The learning point is that God gives you power but the misuse of power is not tolerated by him.

Take the example of Mahabali. He was the greatest giver and he developed Ahambhav or arrogance, as a result of which the God had to take incarnation of 'Baman' to square of his arrogance. Whenever arrogance has taken over humility, God has come down to punish the errant person. Shloka one Namranti Falino Brukhyah,namranti gunino janaha..' It means that any tree loaded with fruit bows down towards earth. Any person gifted with human virtues and qualities also bows down before others. The Niti too says that even if the Rohu fish is a big fish, it does not have the arrogance and it stays in the deep water. However, a small fish called Safari is visible in the surface water and you can catch hundreds of them. The learning point is that the arrogance and show off only reduces the values and image of human kind. Gentleness and soft behavior and humility are virtues of a man, which empowers him in the society to be most acceptable one and ultimately he becomes the leader.
